Ms361 crusty pot

Just changing the pot and piston on my 361 as I’d stripped the exhaust mounting thread.

What causes this excessive cack?

It ran ok but I’ve not seen this ‘crystally ’ type residue on a pot before .

Spark plug was a tan colour without looking like it was too lean.

The exhaust was a bit wobbly for a while.

Any ideas ?

Think a better quality 2/ oil in future, but only ever saw that with salt comtamination on alloy ? Obvs not tho. K

What oil are you running? Fully synthetic burns better so doesn't leave so much junk. Have you always had the saw? Someone could have put chain oil in the fuel tank, tipped it out, fuelled it up and just run with it. Once you have a carbon buildup more carbon sticks to it!

Yes always owned it. To be honest I only use Stihl purple 2 stroke as a) I’ve never had a problem and only had 1 saw seize in 25 years and more curiously , I have found that these older saws especially the ms200t ran like crap on the green stuff .....in fact the 200 wouldn’t run reliably at all on green so gave 5l away and never a problem on the purple !! 🤷🏼‍♂️

That's really odd. I've run all my saws on Stihl HP Ultra and not had a problem.

Even on the Stihl Red , they dont turn out like that . My McCullouchs on Mineral 40:1 looked better after a year ( overhaul time )   K

Not sure why you didn't just helicoil the cylinder on the machine - would have been easier.

Just use a quality oil and make sure the saws carb is tuned correctly, that will cut down on carbon building up.

Ahhhh Spuddlington, Because I don’t own a helicoil kit and I’d already drilled and tapped it and had lost confidence in my abilities to make a good repair......plus a Farmertec big bore complete pot n pist is £30 delivered so it’s small outlay versus repair within my confidence levels 🤨

Surely if it wasn’t tuned property a) it wouldn’t have had the plug colour and b) it wouldn’t have cut so well for the last 12 months ?

That prob won't last long, better to repair original pot with decent helicoil kit as spud says.
