A proton has straps?  I have never noticed but it isnt my lid.

I borrow one on occasion when we need coms. No chinstrap on that lid.

Cant say I am a fan of the protos.  I get a hanging headache wearing it and the ear protection is gash.

I normally use a Petzl Alveo vent.  Both have chipper rated muffs.  Maybe it is just the difference between the two but I dont feel like there is much noise reduction with the protos muffs down.

They do it in two different versions, protos forestry with no straps and then protos arborist with straps

At the end of the day it comes down to personal fit and what shape your head is I suppose. I've had JSP, Petzl and a few other brands and always had hot spots. Took me a good 2-3 days to get the protos set up right but it's a beaut now! If you're head ain't fit for a protos then you won't like them. One thing about protos is they have a tonne of adjustments from sit depth to head size and brow size etc. It takes a long time to get them set up

Stopped using the chin strap a while ago. Had a few occasions where it’s got caught up and pulled my head back. Not the greatest thing to happen when working on the tips of branches.

I can’t believe there’s guys on here claiming to be professional and don’t do simple things like wear a chin strap. Absolutely ludicrous!!!!!

So what are you doing now?

Last I heard you were leaving tree work to do something else.

I like my chinstrap to stop the helmet from falling off my head in normal movement, but not so secure that it wrenches my neck if I catch it on something.

I have to say I used to hate wearing it at first, but a swipe from a bough soon changes yer outlook.:001_cool:

So many rebels in this industry.

If there is a chin strap just wear it.

If you have to wear all round protection chainsaw pants, just get on with it and wear them.

I use the strap any time its on my head. A great annoyance is when something catches the rear quick release thing and then its wobbling loose on my head. Happens far too often. I may have to glue it closed or something. I never use it to get the thing on or off.

I upgraded the ears to 3M X5's which are ok but bloody hot. SNR is not as good as I'd imagined - useless against a Stihl hedge trimmer. I'd melt if there down all day. They dont fold, soon get used to it.

Seen the ears fall off others, I'd guess the little plastic stubs or bracket are worn out.

Anyone want some lightly used, original protos ear denfenders and bracket for £80, in white?

Did you wear Design C trousers all the time when you were in the UK Rich?
