Only for hedges... I have one of those folding ones but its rarely used on a tree.

If I'm being honest I just dont feel safe on them, I'd feel safer freeclimbing.

of course!........................how else could i clean out the gutters!

 

seriously though i dont feel safe on them, but like any other piece of equipment if it makes sense and is easier then why not.

we use ladders for access into tree, not to work from . + folding step type of ladder in hedge cutting domestic situations, most not allowed on site now and need inspection / aproval to use

i dont see a problem with working from a ladder provided you are stropped on, and not cutting anything that you cant maneouvre to avoid clattering the ladder. i do all the time for small bits and pieces.

A big hort firm i sub to in Harrogate has large ground maintanance contracts that inc hedge cutting, he now has to have all his 5 rung step ladders numbered, tested and inspected, safe systems of work issued and each "operator" has to sign to say they are competant in there use! ...........this country is going MAD.
