Look I hadn't read johns post when I posted, he's said it cost £1750 and a day and a bits labour. Explain how that gets to £4K even if you had to get someone in to do it.

To true, especially when you can have a custom stair case for 2k.

From johns post I would of said 4k is steep.

the Predetor machines are very well built but easy to work on

I would expect that to come in at about £2250-£2500 max using a good local mechanic.

4K is a bit steep, but remember they have to guarantee the work

Maybe they don’t want the work, we all quote high sometimes on stuff we don’t care if we get or not.

Get another quote, or ideally order the engine yourself, and pay a company or a competent person to fit it, I think even I’d be confident of swapping out a stationary engine like that.

Is it worth doing? Is the rest of the machine tight? Bushes, bearings hydraulics etc.

Do you have spare capacity finance wise for a new machine? If you’ve plenty of grinding maybe grab that 1.5k someone offered you and slap it down on a brand new machine.

Decisions only you can make.

So my old (2012) predator 38x went to the shop a few weeks back, only to be told that the engine is PROBABLY knackered. They gave an indicative quote of around 4k for them to source and replace the Kohler.
So does anybody here want a project and happen to have a Kohler sitting in their garage, and at what sort of price to sell?? Or do I find a cheap Kohler (much around?) And try to get it going?

Where about are you mate? Mentioned it to the lads at work and they can’t work out £1500 for a days labour

Might be interest depending where you are and price of the machine ...

How many hours has it done? The engines are usually ok for 1000 hours or so I heard? Not sure if that's correct though
680 hours I think. I'm in North Kent, and with all the hassle I'll certainly consider offers ??‍♂️
