What's a good entry level metal detector?, I've got access to a few hundred acres of farm land.

I started with an XP ADX150, brilliant easy to use beginners detector, the next choice would be a Garret.

I then moved up to a Minelab which cost about 5 times as much as the XP and I don't find that much more stuff.

Be careful if you start, it can get addictive!

I have had a few Tesoro detectors, (and still have the cheapest in their range now) they are highly regarded generally and on the whole easy to use. Interesting the idea of looking beneath trees, I was always under the impression that the only sensible place to scour was ploughsoil- logically this is right as most of the bigger hoards are pulled up from deep down by ploughs. That Celtic coin is a cracking find

good question, I always say a second hand decent detector is better than a new lower grade one. I will get back to you later as i have been out of touch

Coincidence, my wife has also just bought the Garrett 400i kit as she has always wanted one.
Do you mind another learner coming along to your party eggs?

Not at all Ed, bring a tent if you fancy it. Paul and his mate are camping, which I can only imagine a few drinks will be consumed.
