Why severely reduced? I sell at 30 quid a Transit load less, lower but not that much lower. Still takes the same fuel, time, etc to prepare and deliver. I burn mainly softwood at home simply because I can get a higher mark up by selling hardwood - the wood itself burns fine.

Mate, you've just answered your own question.:001_smile:

what do you think to the chestnut then? i have tons and tons of the stuff.

Its total crap really and no good what so ever so you best just give it all to me.

Seriously though,

It takes quite a bit of air to keep it going and its best to split even the smallest bore of logs to give the fire a sharp edge to grab on to, if you know what I mean.

Apart from that its fine.

does it not spit really bad tho Steve

I've warned people of the risks with (sweet) chestnut and every one of them has looked surprised and said they hadn't noticed. But I dry it better than most wood; the drier it is the less it spits. But have you ever put semi-green willow on an open fire? When I was a kid the lounge carpet looked like it had been machine gunned. Now that spits!
