PTO wood splitter

Hello,

 For a 26hp tractor.

It isn't my main occupation but as a bolt on service it wins sales.

Need to split up to 1m, seen some with a winch or lifting aids.

I'd like a fast cycle.

What do members of this parish suggest?

Plenty of brands selling Chinesium but I'd prefer something better quality.

Krpan, out of Slovania, I got a 17 t with a winch(which is unfortunately unbraked) driven off the PTO, takes about 1100mm, the paint is falling off despite being shed stored, but mechanically 100%.

A wee hydraulic winch would have been much nicer to use.

I have Posch, mine isn't tractor but as a brand is made in Austria and definitely not Chinesium. Jas P Wilson seem to be UK dealer but maybe you can get it direct from Austria?

I went to les Cognees forestry show in the French alps and was well impressed with the quality of the French-made firewood kit (all seemingly based around splitting into billets for seasoning). I was pissed and not in the market so can’t actually remember who made any of it though...

Ryetec pto log-splitters look the dogs bollox as well - really fast and well built.

Krpan do ones with a clutch driven winch which is far cheaper than the ones with hydraulically driven winches. Good solid fast machine with 1m capacity that you mention. We use the 17 tonne model. The hardest thing for a small tractor wont be the PTO power but the 3 point linkage lift as our splitter is 450kg and the weight is pitched out quite a way out from the linkage.

 

Thor do some lighter pro splitters which are fast but not sure if they offer a winch option

I like my Posch. Mine hasn't got a winch on it but they are available. Could probably retrofit a 12v winch.

It will stall my MF35 if used at tickover on a nasty bit of wood. Should be fine on reasonable stuff for billets though.
