History aside, another reason to be less than happy with China, apart from dirty live markets,  and dihonesty over C19 medical testing data is their huge output of carbon dioxide from coal. Take the bats off em and the coal too. Why worry about a virus that at worst could kill 20% when the pollution is ruining the planet for 100%. It does seem sensible to boycott Chinese imports, but not so much to punish them for bats, rather because the factories run on dirty coal.

Unfortunately we are only geared up for desk jobs, so cant even make comprable products.

* Saw last night Spain has moved to ban non essential work.

When you cough you spray WATER droplets. If it were AIR borne, 2M distance would do FA, just being in the same room as someone would be enough for you to catch it.

As did the French, Germans, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese, even the Belgians. Each of these nations had the same aspirations, we where just better at it.

I agree.

But just because they did it too doesn't absolve us of responsibility.

Correct, just seems like the Brits get the blame for everything that goes on around the whole world and everyone seems to forget the rest of Europe where playing the same game.

And we where just as down trodden by the British Empire here in Scotland as a lot of other countries. Even the average English person hardly benefited did they?

We have not always been squeeky clean in our own food production habits either.

For years we were feeding ground up cows and sheep to our live calves in order to fatten them up good and quick so we could chow down on them.

This resulted in the cattle contracting BSE (Mad Cow Disease) which got passed to humans as CJD. A horrible disease that caused much human suffering and many deaths, including the 'clean up' slaughter of more than 4 million cows in the UK.

Yes it was, however it was the use of organophosphates to treat sheep scab and warble fly infestations that the problem originated from.

One of the biggest cover ups in the history of agriculture. Compulsory use of chemicals that there was little knowledge of . The suffering and deaths that were caused by CJD were only a part of the bigger picture. Thousands of farmers, dipping contractors etc. who are life long sufferers because of their exposure to OPs,

Agreed, but as you pointed out, the Brits were more successful in their empire building exploits, so by extension had a far greater impact in the development of India and the African subcontinent than any other nation. Having reaped the benefit of those exploits, collectively and historically, the country has a responsibility to acknowledge that impact. Or you could divorce yourself from reality and be like Jacob Rees Mogg and say that the concentration camps in the Boer Wars were there for the protection of the people in them! ? ?

But just as the fast majority of the German people today should not bear any guilt to the Nazi Germany period, nor should feel any guilt to the fact that vast majority of their grand parents or great grandparents where Nazis we should not feel any collective guilt for what the British Empire did for a select few rich men nominally in London for the Government or the EIC.
