A relevant thread.  I was given a Tulip stem a couple of years ago and had it milled by an Arbtalker.  I've recently sold 4 of 27 boards!  It is beautiful stuff with its butter yellow heartwood but what do I do with a load of 6' x 2' Tulip boards?!

Shelves and display stands.

how long are they jon?

i might be able to convince my joiner landlord that they would be suitable for his work if he needs some yellow poplar.

Nepia, What sort of tools you have available?

Slabs as that width are good for coffee tables. Minimal tools required. Belt sander, circular saw. Drill.

So no need for stuff like a jointer / planer as that is the thing that most crops up on YouTube when looking up what to do with rough boards...

Also...little off topic... what thickness should i mill stuff to? ive done a mix of 1.5" and 2.25" stuff just to start off nothing massive as i have to handball everything.

If poss, try and turn yr process around.

Decide what you want to make, THEN mill your timber to suit the cutting list for that project.

Not always possible and if only I could follow my own good ideas ?
