Change the band and see if it makes a difference, would take 5 minutes and you'd have a definitive answer. If you get a clean cut then its a dull blade, if the result is the same then its the wood.

How hard you have to push and engine note compared to when the blade was fresh would of course be key indicators before removing the blade.

Although I agree with Andy it looks to me like it is nasty slightly deteriorated wood that is maybe just a bit week and fibrousy.  Some woods will just cut like this.  As Andy says see what a new band is like - I think it will be the same.

I was told by a commercial sawyer that you should change the band when you start getting the feathery swarf in the back of the blade, i usually push on and get a bit more done till i feel a difference in cutting speed

if in doubt change the blade, better finish, prolonged blade life, easier sharpening, if you think the blade is getting blunt, once youve completed a pass and its stopped rotating, a little touch on the back edge with a thumb, see if it feels hot, it shouldnt

Ive only really milled hardwood logs and never had this issue. Milled maybe 10 softwood logs and 2 of them milled like this, not a result of a dull blade. The logs where sopping wet too, moister than an oyster. :D

ha ha ha, monkey puzzle = fuzzy felt , dosent matter what you use, its going to be hairy, its just the way the timber is made up

keep going, enjoy yourself, and treat it as a learning curve
