Does anyone tidy up windfall trees in woodland in return for the  timber to use as firewood instead of charging, does this work out financially ?

Not commercially but I’ll spend a weekend every month or so cutting windfall trees for neighbouring farmers in return for the timber. Use their tractor, grab and trailer to bring it home and heap brash for burning. Haven’t had to buy timber for the last 5 years....

It's wind blown not windfall.
The most dangerous trees there are.

Please excuse my ignorance, what is the difference between windfall and wind blown?

I thought it was windthrown?

Anyway, my somewhat cynical opinion of persons looking for "free" firewood, is they will cherry pick the clean heavier stuff and simply leave the brash and rubbish at there arse.
