Generator keeps tripping

Unusual problem, whenever I plug in my sds drill to the generator, as soon as I press the trigger, it trips the generator. 

Have tried ,loads of other stuff plugged in, nothing else does it.

If I plug in the sds to mains supply, it's also fine.

So the fault is in the drill, but where?

I have found if is sometimes press the switch on and off quickly, I can get the drill to run on the genny, its seems the initial startup is what's killing it

Is the drill earthed or is it double insulated? Are you using an extension? Does it act the same whether the drill lead is coiled or stretched out?

Ahh. Not sure about your first question. Yes using extension, tried plugging it in direct but gave the same result

genny isnt powerful enough.

Its not that, as it ran it for ages before. It's an 800watt on a 3000w genny

Switch on the drill sounds the culprit . Any one else near you got a genny and try it on theirs ...

If it works ok on mains id say its surging on startup. Motors do this. I have a 2000w grinder that i can only run on a genny if i flicker the trigger on startup. Genny dies if i just switch it on. Have you got some other meaty motor tools you can try on the genny?

Normally I’d agree, but a 3000w grinder shouldn’t struggle with an 800w drill. Start up surge on a drill under no load isn’t much compared to something like a compressor which is under load from the off.

Yep shouldnt be doing it. And 3kw genny should do a 800w drill. But it could be that its chinese 3kw or that the genny is knackered. Thus suggesting trying a similar power and type of power tool to see if genny or tool at fault.

When you say tripping do you mean stalling or tripping the fuse/rcd?
