A pollard i came across yesterday. Didn't measure it but must have had a 7" diameter [ATTACH]115630[/ATTACH].

a plane, showing the boabab bottle butt phenomina that is as yet of unkown cause as far as i am aware, David has a corker of an example

Obviously I'm wrong, but isn't that the usual growth for an Oriental Plane?

All of the oriental plane I know exhibit similar trunks but there again I don't know all orientalis.

There's a plane in the high street near me that has a similar stem to that but more conical in shape, I will try and get some pics next time I'm passing, I have often wondered what has caused it.

Hi, interested to know if anyone starts new pollards when the opportunity arises? May have been talked about on this thread before ( but it's been going a while n I only just found it ). I've always felt even though old pollards can be managed they're not immortal and if new ones are not 'created' eventually there won't be any left for our descendants to appreciate.
