weeds in a rose hedge

hi

just spent a day hand weeding a rose  rosa rugosa ?  hedge

grass nettles and goose grass mostly

it was trimmed back to about 2 foot 6 inch last year and the weeds had outgrown the regrowth of the hedge

whats the best plan to prevent weeds coming back or at least slowing them down to help hedge thicken up

there is good regrowth both from ground level and top of the trimmed branches

mulch with lawn mowings

glyphosate on a hand weed  wiper

sprinkle with weedkiller granules but not sure what they kill

any tips ?

thanks

david

Mulch is good but near on impossible to get rid of all weeds under a hedge if they were really well established, as hard to dig all roots out of nettles etc.

Mulch now after weeding then just try & keep on top of stuff as it they returns but proabbably takes yrs to get rid of all.

Least Neetles and cleavers aint has bad as ground elder couch grass or convovulus

Hi,

You need to be careful on hedging,  Look at how long it has been established, be careful of drift. If it is well established you could always use a weed wipe and glyphosate.  But we can advise if needs be on [email protected] or call 01778 394 052   www.progreen.co.uk
