I’ve got a 550XP with an 18” bar and really like it - never missed a beat.

In addition, I’m looking for something smaller and lighter to use with a 14” bar - predominantly for cutting firewood - domestic use only in all honesty, but I’d like something of similar build quality to the 550XP rather than some of the cheap and cheerful domestic models.

Just get a smaller bar and chain for the 550, by far the cheapest option

I’d definitely like a second saw rather than messing around changing bars in the woods etc.

I appreciate the 550 isn’t a heavy saw in the grand scheme of things but a touch lighter would be handy for limbing etc. I was looking at the 435II but presume (based on price) there’s a significant difference in build quality?

I bought an MS181 for a change down from the 346XP (550 predecessor). I find it's never used as you really notice the drop in power but not the saving in weight.

Just get a 15" bar for your 550  , 550 is a small saw , ( its not balanced right on an 18" IMO )  Then get a 560 or 572 or similar  for a bigger saw .
