Depends on the context.

“ Dr! I’ve got a flipping sore throat “

Versus

“This absolute bounder mugged my elderly mother “

Rough Hewn’s language was in context

It's tricky. Imagine you've got the grandkids round (assuming you're an alpha male and have kids), you may well curtail your language. Occasionally, you'll stub your toe and let out a string of profanities. That happens, it shouldn't be the norm.
Otherwise people won't learn the finer points of swearing.

Good example. My brothers think he’s great. I’ve never rated him cos I think he swears to shock/impress in lieu of funny material.
Context is everything and Rough Hewn’s vernacular was in context

I do admit wholeheartedly that I'm a wee bit angry in the morning, exasperated by arriving at work to see some "person" stealing my hard earned logs which effectively feed my family.
I may have written my post without fully thinking through my behaviour and language first.

There is a lot about Arbtalk I really admire, mainly the mature and thoughtful threads and opinions.
Having briefly glanced at "other social media"
The standards of Arbtalk are high, and I believe keeping those standards is important.
I will try to keep my language pre watershed.

However.@john shutler
I have apologised for my improper use of language.
Could you tell me why you let matelot and others use this forum as a platform for racism and islamaphobia for nearly two years and no admin involvement?

Arbtalk is a shop window into our industry, like it or not.

On the one hand people complain that we are not taken seriously as an industry, not paid enough, not considered professional.

Then they whinge when they are pulled up for lowering the tone on here with what is basically unnecessary language.

I'm no prude, I swear as much as the next man, maybe even more. But i am quite capable of curbing my language when i'm typing. Not really sure why its a massive problem for some people.
