just about to buy a new ifor plant trailer....

those they have in stock have led lights,

we tow with defenders, the new (to us) chip truck is a 58 plate Iveco.

 

can anybody tell me whether they will work,

I remember people having issue because of the low voltages.

if some sort of adaptor /wiring harness alteration needs to be made - and if so will our other trailers (currently with standard bulbs) then remain compatible?

 

thinking its easier just to order a trailer with standard bulbs but like the idea of led's

I think the only issue is that the indicator on the dash does not see the trailer lights. The lights themselves work fine at least thats how it is on my Hilux. Since fitting an LED trailer board to the processor I have had no bulb issues unlike the built in filament type ones which were always loose or blown.

Its not a big issue if you come across a fault, you can fit load cells to increase resistance in the circuits, worst case is a call in at the manufacturers and they can probably knock off trailer recognition anyhow.

I'm picking up a new Brian James on Saturday and asked exactly the same about the LED option (which looks attractive due to simplicity and reliability).

BJ assure me there will be no issues.  The vibes I get so far talking to both manufacturer and dealer suggest that if an issue arises I will be helped to deal with it.

Not sure about defender but my Range Rover constantly pings the tail lights on and off as part of the test cycle with less on trailers so I stuck with old style bulbs on new trailer lately.

I think you may have problems with modern (CANBUS) wired vehicles but I don't think even the last defenders were CANBUS.

If you do have a glitch it can be sorted with a little box of electronic tricks.

I put LED lights on my Ifor and they all work fine behind my defender, go for LED if possible as they are much more reliable.

My transit tipper (with canbus) doesn’t like led lights on towed stuff one little bit. I tried 2 resistors in tandem on my tw230 to no avail, to avoid being pulled over all the time by pc plod i resorted to go back in time by strapping a conventional trailer light board on the back. Have done the same trick on my grinder trailer. Result no more lectures from traffic police.
