Canker, I believe, though I've never seen it as extensively as that.

Bit of character in this Oak. The rain kept the sawdust from flying around but the hail was a bit noisy on my lid.

Finished the Elm crotch this morning.

 

Then off to collect this Rowan and some small bits of Elm.

Is that in Huddersfield? There used to be loads of good sized elms on the Halifax road when I first moved up here, between the town centre and Ainley top. 
 
dismantled hundreds in Calderdale in the early nineties (many of which were burred), all of which went for firewood.[emoji20]

I'm guessing it's Rowan by the heartwood.

certainly looks it but as they are not common at that size i don't have much to reference.

It's not heartwood me thinks.
The growth rings went in and out of the coloured centre.



After lunch the Sitka arrived for the log bed, and we went to collect some monkey puzzle and some more small Elm.
