My mill takes a 30” log. But I’m not turning a 30” Oak log 4m long 4 times to get it down to the 24” cant.

So yes, I’ve been knocking the sides off freehand. Or a mix of free hand and lifting and turning with the Avant I get in. This was a chunky bit of oak I loaded just before it got dark.

You do not need an avant !!
Cheap winch, par buckle up ramps ,bloody easy and your log looks twice as good as the one I made a small effort for...worse part was driving it home.

now residing as my stairs.

Do not leave it to splat either , it just goes green and looks shite like sycamore.... you want the rippling and burrs !

Sweet, that's a fair lump too!!

Guessing that is the maple on the stair treads?

Luthiers would love a plank of wood like that.

Busy few days knocking out Oak orders and milling Larch for my own uses.

Since my Log Deck is in the process of getting moved Ive had to improvise.

Also been laying claim to some Oak when out and about. emoji3.png
