I’d spent 40 mins on the bench grinder getting the milling chain spot on and tip top last night and it was flying better than the new spare I had.. to be honest I’d rather hit metal than stones though and yew seem to attract them and suck them up in to there flutes!

I was there with that last year on a small hardwood clear fell, we went one morning with one edge tree left to tip in, put gob in then started back cut and hit metal trashed 7 chains on one tree and 4 of then i had sharpened night before, when we could see what it was it was a old wrought iron victorian tree guard the ones with the half inch round bar, the tree had just grown round it,

Totally feel your pain!! Had a short lump of yew that wasn't much more than 1.5m long. Had no less than 5 or 6 nails in it. We're talking large gauge nails! Lost 3 teeth and many hours of regrinding 😬🤨IMG-20201205-WA0004.thumb.jpg.523cadccb97245c366fc0fa4129bda01.jpg

That's true😄

This was an absolute nightmare because the grain goes in all directions.  Found that on a wide bar it would actually force the bar to bend down because the way the grain went! Ended up with a bow in the bar of about 20mm over a 60 or 70 inch bar. That was before I lost the teeth as well!

Anyone else had this?

The price you got paid to mill it, I am sure you could afford a new chain or replace the teeth 😅
