How on earth did you manage to get so much crap in the tank? I always clear the cap of debris before I open it. I 'liberate 'dust free' cans from work, so use that if there is a bunch of saw dust around the lip.

I visually check the filter on a regular basis, but Im sure you do as well so Im guessing its not easy to visually see if its blocked? I look for the almost wicking effect when the filter dips in and out of the fuel and if you see the gauze you're good to go, but maybe thats a false sense of security?

Hi the matey that I take my saws to suggested that I buy a small scrubbing brush and keep it with my combi can as I was always getting my carb rebuilt espically on my carving saw so I did and havent had any probs since just a quick brush before re filling it was the best 2 quid spent in a while

I always peak in the fuel tank when refuelling.
The filter was blocked with fines.
Couldn’t see it.
I’ll just clean them all every few months now.

Dont you clean your saw after using it even if its just a quick wipe over or blow off with the air line

The stihl mechanic couldn’t understand why an “obviously well looked after saw, which only runs on motomix would pop?”
That was the first phone call.
By the fourth call he’d found the issue.
(And the pot and piston).
Yeah I clean the side cover a lot and the air filter, inside the area about the switches.
I find the fan and fins never get messy?
I’ve got a whole box of various greasy paint brushes and chopsticks for really tough stuff.
