Have 3 old apples trees which require attention along with a pear a plum and a fig tree.

Congleton area.

Any recommendations?

Cheers, Ben

There's a thread in the general section on just this subject, should be in the first page or two. There is also plans to have a Fruit Tree care section very soon.

How well do figs grow in the UK?

@trigger_andy this is our first year in the property so only a single data point but the fig tree grew a fair bit, had a ridiculous amount of leaves but the fruit, although plentiful, did not ripen.

@Steve Bullman yes I was looking for recommendations for people to do the pruning. I don't have the skillset nor the confidence to have a go at these trees. They are lovely old trees (the apples especially so) and I don't want to risk their health with a botched job. Thanks for Nick's name, I'll give him a call

You need wasps to burrow into them and die. :D Put me off Figs for life, hahaha.

Figs take two years to ripen on the tree, if I remember right.

I'm trying to grow a fig tree in Wales, but it's not doing to well. Froze and died back the first year, and something (probably a fox after field mice) dug up the roots this year. Hopefully it will sprout again, but I'm not holding my breath.

How big is your fig tree ? They fruit best if they have restricted roots system.

They do very well in this country.

Trigger is partly right about the wasp thing , but don’t be put off !

there an odd fruit as the pollination occurs inside not by flowering .

could you post a picture of fig and Apple trees,

you could perhaps do the job your selve with advice from here ! Or gen up here before talking to a contractor.

everway if you love them , get a good job done,

enything we can do to help feel free to ask.
