Perhaps the prevailing wind was SW and the site was such that there was not enough windpower from other directions so it was pointless to turn it.?

Yes it is but this is one of the least windy places I know, probably not a very successful venture, even the water mills around heare are undershot so there would have been a dearth of power before steam.

Hi amazing vids so cool , as far as I know the French used to season their oak for their buildings by leaving it in the lake or river , kinda makes scens, I rescued an Elm log out of the river and once the outside was dry I milled it and lovely boards and very stable wish I had more of it only got one board left .

By 'eck!   This is a bit different to my system!

I do think there is something special about actually handling all the logs and boards, and feeling the saws cut the wood and much more satisfaction with the end product each time you sit on it, eat off it or walk on it.

This system has cost a few jobs no doubt but we had better become used to it for when the robots take over!

I find these things very calming and relaxing . Shame they are disappearing .

Hats off to the guys that get off their asses and get involved in keeping these old historic vintage ways of life going. Some of the best I have visited have been run by enthusiasts rather than money making accountants. IMO, you can never replace enthusiasm....it is contagious and shows in the way people talk about their hobby....the girl who showed us Happisburgh Lighthouse got married there.....sort of committed type and very enthusiastic:thumbup:

This is on my shortlist for this year - http://www.strumpshawsteammuseum.co.uk/
