Pricing cock up

Put a quote in for a job last month £350.00 plus VAT. Felling 1 birch and 1 alder. Client accepted bid, and we did the job a few weeks later. Leaves had fallen and the trees looked a lot smaller. We finished the job in a couple of hours. I took the cheque. Got home and felt quite guilty. So for the first time in 15 years, I went beck to the client and gave them £70 cash back. I felt a lot better for it and my concience is clear.

Tbh I cant work things out on here, most of the time when the subject of day rates come up I find that nearly all the time I have the lowest rate.

But it seems that alot under price jobs more frequently than I do.

I've just had a chat with the accountant and we've decided I can't have a day rate. There's just to many variable with the different type of work I do..... He now agrees that I need to decide what I want out of each job, and work up costing wise to a final figure, rather than put an hourly rate on jobs.
