You’ll have to forgive me as i’m not from a tree working background so your ratchet mech’s may differ, but the type i have in mind are the load restraint type ratchet mech. Like below.

You need two straps and two ratchets.

That’s what tracked chippers are for...

Two ratchets, two straps - they are both essentially doing exactly the same pull, but you tension/winch with one of them, then do the same with the next before releasing and shortening the first. 

Get ya!!!! Was over thinking what hairyonyourchest said in his post. And obviously as mark said, your spool is soon full.... release use other etc yada yada yada [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] i had one ratchet two straps as an image with me stood in the middle scratching my ass!! ??‍♂️[emoji23]

Well yes- or I would just tuck my skirt in my knickers and get on with lugging the bloody tirfors out the cab ! God ! Mines a Prada with the gold straps n hanky pocket ! K

However, by using a couple of Prussik loops on the line to be tensioned, a great deal of pull can be applied with a couple of kilos of dirt cheap gear.

Not wrong. Also great for in-tree pre-tensioning of bracing (where relevant).
