I need to replace a 353 that’s been a real reliable workhorse for some years. Not desperate but it’s starting to get a bit tired now. I was thinking a 550 xp would be it’s current equivalent?.

Im starting to get cold feet with all the adverse comments though, and the saw sounds a bit fussy. If I buy a nice shiny new one, have all problems been ironed out?- or is there another equivalent workhorse to the 353 out there that I should consider?. Thanks for any tips.

550 has had many upgrades now along with the 560 platform.  AT-12 carb along with cooling improvement ,air filter improvement and now as with the 560 it has a  new 6 bolt case.

If you like Husqvarna as a make then there is less to be concerned about than with the early versions of the 550.

2018 IPL info for you.

Well I got the 560 back last week,  used it today.   Clear up a smallish wind blown willow still attached laying over a big ditch,  and clear two big still attached Ash limbs.    Took most of the day but only two refuels.    Saw was exactly the same as when I took it in,  stop for two mins to refuel.  Pull it to restart and off it goes.

But leave it for 10 or 15 minutes to load some of the timber cut and its very reluctant to start.   AM I getting something wrong ,    4 or 6 pushes of the bulb ,  2 or 3 pulls with no choke, if no go move choke lever up to the on position then lower to the run position,  then pull again.   The latter sets the throttle open.   Has taken 10 - 15 pulls to start,   never used to have this issue.

Going to take it back to the dealer who rebuilt  it on Tuesday unless anyone has any advice to the effect I am doing something wrong.   Got a 462 on order arriving next week.

Hot start procedure is this.

Switch out and up to put the choke on then push lever down to knock choke off but leave on part throttle.

Few pumps on the bulb, DO NOT push the decompressor button in, pull the saw over FAST.

If im honest, the worst thing I see operators do is not pull the saw over fast enough.

To start our 560 from warm I would give it one fast pull if it didn't run straight away put it on part throttle as per above.

If you flood a husky it can be a bad start to the day.
