Tree roots and water pipe

Hey woody paul, remember as a kid growing up on the farm, my dad had a pressure drop over a period of 12 months to practically nothing, played havoc with the milking / flushing etc at milking times morning and night. Turned out that they had put a new plastic mains pipe in before we bought the farm in 86 and in 92 when we had the issue it was found that where they had coupled the new plastic to existing steel/lead (cant remember what it was) it had all oxidised/corroded at the joint and restricted the passage between the two! Authorities were made to carry out the repair and to also continue the plastic pipe all the way to the main road, something they were already meant to have done when the original job took place in early 80’s [emoji15][emoji849][emoji849]?

There is always an exception.. However as I understand it is not going to happen with pipes under pressure such as mains water.

Root ingress may happen but again unlikely in pressurised pipes. It is not a suitable environment for root growth in most cases..

i must also be the exception! i have seen this a fair few times, having worked for a drainage spares firm as a kid probs gives be the inside edge ;)

Just had to replace c.160m of water pipe after a massive bill for a leak. Turned out we had iron pipes. At least now we know where the water runs and have various shut off valves to isolate bits of the system
