From my experience of work travel I don’t know how a freelance climber makes any money. After my b&b or travelodge, fuel and grub I walk away with x, I try as best I can to factor in travel and food but I can’t always get it right when quoting. If you’re a freelance climber you’re getting £150 a day, so after all expenses you go home with what, maybe 60 to 80 quid, this industry is struggling for climbers for a reason.

So I joined this industry back in September and apart from the 1st Month I've not worked a full week. This has been getting me down so much and hitting me financially I feel that I have no choice but to give up and go back to Warehousing/Logistics. I cannot believe that there's not enough work to be able to support my career move locally.

I will be selling all of my kit in due course so keep an eye on eBay

Put some of the stuff on Arbtrader on here, anything nice?

Freelance climbing isn't something you can start off in the industry. Your better off starting with a good company, building up experience and contacts. Starting off in Arb is hard enough, but I wouldn't recommend the deep end of freelancing, it's unpredictable and variable...and you'll always be a spare man on the team.

I started off with a small outfit but was doing anything between 11 and 13 hours for little money. a groundie was on the same money as me for less hours! i was then working as a subbie. Ive just set by myself and am struggling to get any work in. get the odd jobs which pay well but not enough to pay basic bills etc

My level is ok. I can srt for access and then switch to ddrt once up moving around I'm ok also. Enough to get the job done anyway

Straight into freelancing from the get go is a big big ask mate.  It takes a few years to get up to a speed where you are making companies money and being able to charge decent money for doing so.  Are you getting repeat work from the same customers?
