So assuming for arguments sake 1 tree = a cube, you can fell 5 trees but only sell 2. What happens to the other 3? Hardly a profitable investment for an average farmer, ok he could get a license then he can’t cut them himself it’s all too much red tape

Getting a felling licence is a doddle, and it doesn't in any way stop him/her cutting them themselves.

The other 3 cube is for personal consumption and if you get a licence, WHY do you say you can't fell your own trees ? It don't matter who fells them .

Try flipping the telescope....

Get a sustainable management plan, apply for a licence, harvest timber, replant and continue the cycle.... (you'll probably even find some free money floating around to help....)

So far as I'm aware, a FL doesn't specify WHO does the harvesting OR what happens to the timber after harvesting.

I'm just hoping this isn't a "poor farmer burdened by red-tape and profit restricted by insufficient grant funding" type thread...

Otherwise I'll probably end up being a whining member of the general business community that receives NO beneficial trading advantages struggling to understand why the agriculture sector, despite having the most favourable trading conditions imaginable, still manages to moan more than anyone else....

And that would be tragedy....

scandalous idea. where did you here that?

Think I read about it once in a magazine titled, farmers farming.

If you ever need an accurate weather forecast try watching country file, not sure what the rest of the material is about but the weathers good.

As said, everyone needs a felling licence, they're not to hard to get and they're pretty sensible in what you can cut. The 5cube is just so you don't need one if you're felling for personal use.

There are too many regulations (I'm sure someone will ironically complain yet again about a farmer complaining now ;)) but in this case it's a fairly simple one that stops people buying up large areas of land and clear felling them without consideration.
