My splicing attempts

Surely once the weight is put on it the wire will bend and not spring back? I think I remember DrewB making rope guides like this and if i remember correctly he put some sort of rubbery springy material in the big spliced eye so that once the climbers weight is removed the eye reverts back to a wide loop. Im sure the thread is on here somewhere... I will have a look.

I think it depends what wire you insert to be honest mate. The stuff ive used seems to spring back really well. In saying that though ive not had the chance to test it properly yet.

If it dont work though, then i'll make myself another one:001_tongue:

I was talking to nod about what to do for the best. Ive always had my doubts about soft eyes over cambium rings too. This idea does seem to work really well though.

Lts face it,they all get stuck at some point!! haha

Only on Friday afternoons Hadders.....:sneaky2:

Don’t have too much trouble with my soft loop, like the way it doesn’t caught in tight spots, just have to hang it real loose,

these help, especially the little cap thing,

probably the most expensive bits of plastic known to man though !!:scared1:

the problem is not the large soft eye.

the problem is the pulley being used, im not sure how big the cocoon eye is, but i do know if you did the same thing with a reguler isc stylee pulley the ropes eye will get stuck on retrieval. much the same as pulling the wrong end of the rope to get a reguler cambium saver down?

Thats because isc swing cheek pulleys are crap:001_tongue:

The cocoon and the link1 pulley made by ART are designed for life support and specificly on rope guides.

Ive tried many different rope's on these pulleys with different eye's and they all fit through no problem. The most awkward ones though are the yale xtc eye's.......................this is because there not hand spliced:001_tongue:

So you mean there is a place for custom splicing? It's a shame that there are dark forces out there that don't agree:sneaky2:

If you are thinking of learning to splice rope please get some instruction if you can, you wouldn't climb on a incorrectly tied attachment knot and the same applies to an eye splice, if it is not spliced correctly it could fail.
