well I passed, I don’t know how, as it was not one of my better climbs. But now I guess it’s time to go and play in the real world ?

Yeah I have 1 quote to do when I get a free moment on a clearance job but that aside no calls for trees yet.

Eager to get going but I am not going to be doing anything at all out of my comfort zone. Aside from climbing high up bloody tree and cutting them up of course.. The irony...

I'm starting to realise that some things you can't really learn ALL by yourself.

I'm wondering whether to hire myself out as a groundie with obviously tickets for chainsaw cross cut and small fell and climbing and aerial rescue with a vehicle, chipper and 3.5 ton trailer so I can be around the business.

What would I be worth as a groundie with all saws, kit, and the above machinery?

Would it be a problem if there was signage on a vehicle?

And do you think a local company would have a problem with this knowing that I have an established fencing company that is going into trees?

Get yourself some braces for yr pants (the velcro ones, Not the ones with metal jaws) put the braces on bare skin and a long sleeve lycra rash-guard top over the top of the braces and pull it down over the waistband of the pants. Then harness up, it's brill - no chippings in the underwater, ever again.

Is that a 6 inch towed chipper?
3.5ton tipping trailer?
4x4 tipper vehicle?
If so, probably £150-200 a day.
Otherwise £70-£100 for a complete newbie and you'll leave most at home, as most firms have their own kit.
You will get a broad experience of work subbing out, as well as using lots of different machines.
Money goes up with experience, ability and speed.

It would be a 3 way 3.5 ton tipper trailer with chip box towed by either an unsigned 4x4 or a very large van that is sign written.

Chipper would be a self propelled 120mm chipper

Be prepared to leave it at home, as that's a small garden setup.
Very useful for small jobs though.
As a newbie you'll be brash dragging mainly.
Best to find an experienced firm to teach you "commercial climbing" and that takes years.
I've got my cs38&39 coming up on 20th August.
Then after I'll start to learn real world climbing.

Let's face it , why would any firm want to hire in someone with a truck/chipper..unless totally inundated with work.....as any established company will have their own plant ...good luck ..but this is how our industry is allways being devalued by people who think they can buy a truck /chipper pay for some tickets and think that's it they're tree surgeon
