Ever thought of stopping the protests and stepping aside?!

Its quite clear the work will happen come what may sooooo who’s at fault for all of the extra costs you describe? You! Move aside no police needed, no guards and lads will get the job done quicker.

Irrelevant of what explanation you give, irrelevant of what letters you send and to who the work continues, it’s going to happen come what may why not learn to accept that in this none perfect world and save yourself some time, effort and energy.

Yea just step aside and let those in authority do what the hell they please with no remonstrations. Great advice. Lets live in a dictatorship and question nothing. Let those in power do what they like despite lots of well respected professionals calling for it to stop, that the tree replacement policy is a sham.  Very intelligent advice. Thanks

I'm flabbergasted.

How much do you think it would be cost to tear up the contract and think again?
Do you think that the contractor is going to say yes no problem we will lose out on “x” million because people don’t like what you’ve decided to do (elected by the people who live in Sheffield)

By all means campaign to stop this happening again somewhere else but is it worth someone getting killed because they can’t keep themselves out of the drop zone?
Peaceful protests don’t require masses of police and security guards.

Have you seen the protestors? Go have a look at the footage and decide for yourself. In 3 years there has only been one that has been found guilty of anything and that was breach of an injunction!

I’ve seen one or 2 videos.
One peaceful the other had an idiot in the work area hugging branches from trees that were on the floor trying to stop them being put into the chipper.

Do you think it’s a good idea for people to endanger everyone?

I think they moved the goalposts when they started manhandling Grannies.

The problem is, is that the figure of 17,500 trees to be felled is written into the contract.  Whether it's a legal clause or not is beyond my skillset.

No not at all but sometimes things can only change when random acts ensure maximum publicity. There is now no work undertaken whilst people are in the work zone. People are removed and then herras fencing erected. The arrests of people recently have been for refusal to move in order for fencing to be erected. Some of the arrests have been for ridiculous things as highlighted in my post. All those arrested in the past few weeks have been released without charge.

I'm not sure, but my understanding is that that figure is no more than a guide for the tender process.

So for the purpose of tendering it's a case for allowing for up to 17500 tree removals and associated costs to complete the works.
