Haven't seen the article yet, Margaret has been kind enough to send me on a copy.

Climate for sure plays a part.

We carried out some ring counts, and the noticable thing is how large the growth rings are compared to timber of similar dimentions back here in the Uk.

I think the verdicts still out awaiting due proceessing of the data, but you may be right.

There will be a publishing of the whole project later next year.

.

Tut tut - and why are you not a subscriber??? Just shows ya - FJ and eA readers get the news first lol.

Hope the article arrived with you safely - we only had access to the PR photo unfortunately - you have some great shots there - would make a great article for the next issue of essentialARB David - d'ya fancy putting pen to paper for me?

Fantastic pic's David!!!

Do you think some one had started felling one of the trees then changed their mind??

It looks like the put in the gob, then went home??

I'm sure thats the case Dave.

looks too triangular for mechanical damage or branch failure.

Must of been a good while ago.

Amazing tree aint it. :001_smile:

BUMP

Monkeyd, Is the Arbotom any good ?

No need to shout, I've got a headache :001_tongue:

Was more interested in climbing and looking at the Trees tbh, and only took a passing interest in the tomography data that the Spanish Arbs were interpreting.

I'm sure you'd get/or indeed already have, a comprehensive reply from regular users :001_smile:

Kellykettle was a godsend :thumbup1:

The group had opportunity to look at various methods of detection, Resistograph, pressler borers, compaction tests as well as tomography.

One of the most fascinating observations was seeing advantitious sprouting from the cambium around axe incisions.

Also comparing the callous condition and surface landscape between the axe & chainsaw cuts, was non conclusive but fascinating nonetheless.

Margaret, there is a schedule for dissemination of the tours information, which among other places includes a staff forum Ppt I gave last week, this here at AT, and also inclussion in the trade mags, journals & the ATF web site from somepoint early next year.

I'll have a chat with Helen Read to see where & who is proposed to be asked to run it.

Get back t'ya :001_smile:
