Putting Pruning in Context

Of course I do, but I differentiate between an ancient specimen, which, lets face it we work on very rarely if ever, and the sort of trees that 99% of us work on 99% of the time.

okay, I hoped so.

I didn't read that article as being blatant posturing though.

If more people tried to work more closely with the basic principles within it would go a long way to furthering the industry.

ancient specimens will have started there early life as regular trees and maybe through good fortune or good tree care became specimens.

i cant really see how you can call this article "pointless blather"  agreed it poses more questions than it answers, but lets not forget that flush cutting, tar paint for wounds and cement to fill cavitys were all the rage at some point till some one started thinking about it.

I am not a talkative bloke. I think that the report uses lots of words to say, trees do alright on their own, any interference upsets this "doing alright and doing their best" equilibrium. Which is kinda my attitude and I'm sure I lose lots of work due to it. Lots of tree work is purely aesthetic but I really love it when it's to try and help the tree regain it's equilibrium or avoids it's removal for a few years as it is clearly in terminal decline and making it "safe" for a period is all that can be done. Maybe I'm a shit tree bloke!
