Appreciate what you say about the 'knockabout' usage but would hydraulic rotation be better if cost was less of an issue?

Cost was not an issue for me, but everyone I talked to here and in the States said it wasn’t needed.

One good morning with a knockabout and you’ll see why.

Having said that I’ve never used a rotator :)

This shows better how a knockabout is used, you think these guys couldn’t afford a rotator?

That's the way to do it!

I'm a bit confused by the terminology..  Is 'knockabout' the term used to describe a grab that is free rotating but not hyd powered rotator?  And is that what you have Mick??

I am wondering whether it is better to buy one with rotation set up then disconnect, rather than buy without and have to add on later.

Why bother to disconnect, with most rotators and as I had on the hydratongs, you use a motor slice for that function in the spool block, it free-wheels when not in use but the oil flow back and forth damps it.

Good video that Mick I wish I'd done a bit more research and watched that video before I bought mine.

The other main reason I bought a grab with a rotator was for the yard. I don't have a great deal of space and thought that having the ability to rotate would make sorting through the firewood a lot easier.

Horses for courses I suppose but after looking at that knock about in action I don't think you could go far wrong.

Thanks, looks a bit unforgiving for European lawns.

Because the tines are wide/long  it wont dig in but it needs a good operator. The one BMG make is much gentler  for turf .

Virtually no one here has a decent lawn or garden  so we are lucky
