  1. 1. How often do you exercise?

    • never
    • daily, cardio based
    • daily, weighlifting based
    • every other day, cardio based
    • every other day, weighlifting based
  2. 2. Do you think regular exercise would benefit the average arb worker?

Sorry for the random post quoting Silky Fox - I couldn't post anything on that thread apart from that. Odd little glitch.

I found much the same VI - when I was doing regular forestry work my back was generally fine. That range of movement is key.

I don't know anything about gym's or regimented weightlifting but I think I have definately benefitted hugely from 'accidently' strengthening my core muscles.

I worked on a farm for years. It was physical but only in specific ways, alternating between driving tractors and lifting cumbersome heavy items. My arms and shoulders got strong but I suffered from serious bad back issues.

Since switching to woodland management, the greater range of movements under load has I think significantly strengthened my core, particularly legs and back. I no longer suffer any back problems at all, despite still lifting heavy awkward objects.

Sorry, not specifically gym related, but still relevant I think.

Blimey, that's impressive.

Just out of interest, what's the reasoning behind that chap cupping your balls during the atlas stone lift?

Naturally, every little helps when moving heavy lumps of concrete!

I'm fairly sure that my reliance on the belt is what injured my back at that time, but you do these things when you are young and stupid (22-23 in the photos).

It's interesting though, most of the on the ground forestry folk I know are fairly wirery and lean. The bulky ones, I suspect, do extra training on top.

Maybe this has something to do with calorie consumption? Either that or you really have to concentrate on specific muscle groups to get them bulging?

Couple of links to some of my lifts I train chest twice a week flat once and incline another day

Wowzers!

How do you guys feel mentally after a weight training session? Presumably it puts you in a good mood?

Have you noticed any difference in mood effect between weights and other forms of exercise?

With a pause as well. Bloody impressive. I forget where I heard it, but the theory was that you can bench with a higher frequency than other lifts. I'd never have the patience to do enough back work to balance out three days a week of benching though!

Feel pretty good generally. Physically, it seems to iron out the aches I get in the right side of my back. If I eat a full meal within 2 hours of training I usually feel sick. Mentally, it's nice to properly push myself in the gym and I'm still at the stage of really easy gains as I've only been training 3 months.
