Really odd light /sun here in Colchester too. Apparently it's in part dust from the Sahara and debris from the forest fires in Spain and Portugal!

Must be moving south and west. This morning the wind was warm and balmy, gusts felt as if you was  next to an exhaust pipe, but the sky was orange and dark.

In oldham it's blowing with an occasional fierce gust, but the sky is now blue and temp dropped to normal.

the sun was a very strange red colour here in County Down right before it turned black, the winds been howling all day, and muggins here like an idiot has been out all day clearing fallen trees from the roads while getting showered in sparks from the power lines because the council sent their staff home on a half day due to the weather, arrived at some places where trees were blocking major roads for hours and not a single police officer, not even a traffic cone! Road service sent home by the looks of it as well, biggest storm to hit for decades and the government decides to send its relevant staff home and its up to fools like us to keep the place running!

I would have thought sending staff home until this blows past was a good idea myself. No point getting killed clearing crap up while it’s still going on.
All these trees will still be on the floor tomorrow and if not the day after
