look at the 3.0Ldiesel that's fitted to the Isuzu troopers from 1998-2005,  it can 'run on' as described. It's actually a Caterpillar lump though and they were decent enuf to honour claims for engine failure long after the warranty had expired.

We had one as a reps express and the dealers were so helpful everytime it went bang! One dealer told me that they had had several in for new lumps, way out of warranty, no service history and absolute farm sheds but Isuzu still wanted a new engine fitted. Superb service!

It still can, try revving a diesel and then switching off whilst simultaneously spraying WD40 into the intake.

...I did not mean 'deliberately '   ... ;) K

more frontera woes, towed her back to my shed and fitted a second hand turbo (from a reputable breakers, tested with 6 month warranty), ran perfectly for about half an hour, suddenly started getting lumpy and erratic revs, smoke belching out the exhaust, switched her off, oil level good, no sign of oil/water mixing, removed pipes from new turbo and all good, tried to start her and starter just clicked, looks like she drained the battery but that shouldn't have caused those symptoms, at a loss?

Once ( when I was an apprentice ) I had a 250hp tractor lose go while I was setting the injection pump " whoops " stood right next to a very big & very very loud engine, it was real brown trouser time until we got her stopped , a 250hp diesel takes some stopping when the only way is to stall the engine, it took days for the smoke to clear in the workshop,  now who starts it next ? :$

I saw it happen last summer to a van next to me on a roundabout,  eingine just ran away, white smoke everywhere,  I just got out of the way as I did not want a bit of flywheel chasing me.

Think its all sorted now, flushed out all the pipework and fitted new oil and filter, running fine so hopefully that was the first and last time i'll ever experience diesel engine runaway!
