Tongue and Groove Tree Felling Technique

I take that it is for small trees. like small pines and palms like you say.

 

I don't understand what makes it more efficent and a better way of felling than doing basic felling cut.?

 

I am sure it has its place..but where? Wouldn't mind giving it a go..but when should you use it?

 

gives better directional fell ie harder for hinge to break off and it goes off line

saves tree leaning back and cutting wedge ect

I think under normal circumstances, we'd have had that palm down, chipped and be in the cafe by the time we'd ponced about with that cut.

 

Maybe it's the easiest way to fell palms......I might try it next week, 'cos I can't get a handle on an easy way yet.

I can see some handy places to use that, ones sided tree, Possiblly dead beech where the hindge would just crumble?

I used this one about 10 years ago to fell a sycamore... (can't remember why, I think we must have been having a play about). It seemed to work well enough but haven't used it since... can't have been that good!

I cannot see how doing a plunge cut through the center of an already small hinge(reference to smaller trees) then relying upon a piece of split wood, would make the hinge hold better than a standard well cut hinge:sneaky2:

I just seen the first 10 seconds. Did he really lift the gob piece off the bar with his fingers with no chain brake on. Maybe just tilt the bar back and let it slide off.
