Prices vary from area to area.

You wouldn't get away with charging London prices in the midlands.

I stopped giving hourly rate a few years ago as people expect to pay only for the milling time not set up.

Day rate for chainsaw milling is £200-£250 I know some ask up to £400, if they can get good luck to them.

Depends on the job, but normally,

Flat day rate £325

2 guys, many mills and big saws, insured for milling.

8hr day.

Run motomix and stihl bio.

Generally travel 1-2 hours each way to work.

Time in workshop grinding 48" ripping chains, filing bars, cleaning etc.

Not much profit, but if you bring a slice home each time, you get a good stash.

£400 is more reasonable, but I'm sure would put people off.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, personaly I hate those 'how much to quote for this job' threads but what would be a fair average price for milling services with an alaskan?

I hate those threads where folk give virtually no details to allow others to answer them ;)

Break it down some! What saws you got? What mills you got? What experience do you have? Where are you based?

All of that has a bearing on what price you can charge.

type, quantity, and condition of timber, size supplied and size required, acsessability and condition of "yard", these all have a bearing on the cost, as well as your kit,

We quite regularly get enquiries about a mobile chainsaw milling service - customers also often comment that they'd arranged someone to come and do a days milling but no one turned up.

I reckon if you don't end up doing a job it's because you've priced it too low!

As a rule of thumb - if you have a good sized set up (MS880 or equivalent), a vertical mill/saw and know what you're about I'd say £320-00 for a days work is around the right price.

If there's x2 of you then £420-00.
