Neighbour has given up growing since his bust though earlier this year in a mad revenge attack he cut down to the ground all my fruit trees and ragged out the blueberries.

He's an addict with nothing to lose so although I informed the Gendarmes I asked for no further action.

We are selling the place and don't need to have an open conflict on the books.

This year I’m growing Okra for the first time, so far dead easy, lush plants just starting to produce an abundant crop, pretty flowers also. 

 

 

 

I've considered Okra a couple of times, but dismissed it as didn't think it would be worth the effort in the British climate. I imagined it would need tropicalish conditions, i.e. hot and quite wet. Have you been giving them lots of water? They nice veg to eat.

We have been battling the heat for months now, with hardly any rain, currently watering to just keep things alive. The okra have dense foliage so cast deep shadow on the soil at root level, seems to help them deal with the heat.

Just a slotted spoon in one hand and teaspoon in the other- yes it seems never ending but made more bearable with a nice cold beer on the go 🍺
