Failed at the roots, David. The stump is only back in its place because of the crane pulling the main stem up off the flats and back to vertical. Not sure if anyone has done a tree survey for those trees recently but if they had, the state of that stump should have been spotted.

dig-dug-dan, the crane was £780 inc vat.. a bit more on this job as it was a Sunday. It's a 35 ton crane, which is ideal for most jobs. The main stem pick was slightly over 4 ton.. about the maximum weight for the reach on that occasion. The whole job was £2,640 inc vat. 3 guys, 5 hours.

Have to say, thats a good price on that crane, and essential in those circumstances!
