Fair point. My issue is that I have struggled to get the finished log quality I need from processors.

 

The best I have seen is the top of the range Jappa with it's funky splitting action. This machine costs about 100 million pounds.

 

If you stick with the four way and are not lazy about moving the blade up and down you can get pretty good logs off the Farmi using is as just a splitter. The Fuelwood makes nice logs but a lot of kindling at the same time. Nothing beats a good vertical splitter and human eye for neat logs though

I always seem to revert back to the low-tech option, although in my case it is horizontal splitters and a huge library of audiobooks:001_smile:

The one with fastest cycle time and large blade 15-20 tonne. Cant see the need for more power and increasing power slows cycle time. Probably Posch but didn't get one as too heavy for our wee tractor.

Agreed. I have a 13t petrol version and once you get a good rhythm going it is surprising how quick you can fill a cubic metre cage.

 

I added a basic rsj beam with flat table to mine with a 280mm gap. Ours is nearly all arb waste, which we ring up at 26cm (mini digger with grab, forklift with tipping skip and a ms660). As long as you can get it all at good working height to avoid backache, it's a good system for two guys. If you are doing thousands of cubes then obviously better stuff out there but for a few hundred cubes it is good and only costs a couple of £k for the splitter.

Im looking for a splitter for only short stroke up to 12" logs for fast cycle. Think pto is the way to go
