2wd pick ups

It may be different now, but usually the 2wd variants of things like the Hilux, Ranger (or Mazda), etc were hardly or no better on fuel than the 4wd versions.

 

Quite old now, but the Caddy or skoda pickups were good little pickups and economical too.

As said before the skoda caddy pickups were great little trucks but getting long in the tooth and rare now, I used and abused 3 of them and it always suprised me where they would go if you pick away quietly if you do get it stuck they are easy to get out.

On the second caddy van now but not as versatile as the pickups and still use the Disco for the heavy towing.

I am tempted to look at the Fiat Doblo pickup 1 tonne payload 1.3 tonne towing and as ugly as sin so it might not get nicked.

Make that 3, used to tow a TPO Chipper to site on a trailer, with a tractor taking a grain trailer to chip into.

Ran a P100 (Cortina shape) when I first started out, then a Bedford KB 1 ton pickup- fantastic truck so long as you knew it's capabilities. Great for small domestic stuff and it was my car/work truck for about 3 years (20 years ago now)

Maybeso but I don't remember a bad ride, seating was good for me and the door window height was lower and preferable to the P100. I live in the sunny south so heater was not a problem and I fitted a hitachi radio.

 

The fuel economy wasn't good at about 32mpg on diesel and probably around 20 mpg with a petrol one but it carried a full tonne and the lsd meant it wasn't bad on a track or with one wheel on a wet verge.

I was always led to believe they were rated at 2 ton payload in France,that's alot of onions
