Stefan you are going to love our six ton "Dumper Stumper" . Based on a six ton thwaites 4x4 dumper with a shuttle , swivel skip removed and a direct drive 8.3 ltr turbo Perkins V8 diesel ( very compact and loads of torque @a very leisurely 1500 rpm) Running a similar set up to our big Rayco but mounted to the swivel set up on the dumper, should have at least 13 feet of sweep with an augur shifting the grindings to one side. Gathered all the bits bar the wheel ( still doing research on teeth that will poke up with that engine). If Mick Dundee does not go on walkabouts this year we will get it built. No good for Mrs Miggins back garden though :)

Perkins v8, probably the best sounding engine ever, fact, had one in a dodge fire engine, that thing flew!

Stefan, I reconwhen the engine gives out on your machine you could spend a couple of days welding fillets in to strengthen it, then mount the motor of your choice onto the chassis - longways to keep it narrow then convert the drive to hydraulic (it will use up some HP but if you select a big enough motor it will not notice) - maybe use some bits off a 50hp predator or something similar.

 

Just make sure the casings are modified to allow easy access to starters, filters etc. and you are on to a winner.

 

Gotta be worth a go. Cummins powered beast that goes through a 26 inch gap!

Just don't forget to strengthen the chassis first.

We stump grinding guys should go together and create a heavy duty stump grinder suitable for British demands.

 

That don't break down due to undersized parts .

Stefan do you feel British stumps are tougher than stumps elsewhere in the world?

Stumpgrinding is hard on the machine. Any machine will wear, you need to allow for maintenance, breakdowns and repairs in your pricing.. to my mind the Carlton machines look spretty good, they aren't exactly light.
