Looks more like Ash to me.

I have been cutting hazel all day and they are more brown than that. Bark looks grey like Ash.

 

I though it looks like Ash, get a close up picture of the bark as it doesn't look to shine like Hazel, you get papery peel effect on it as well. I make a few walking sticks and Hazel is the favourite but Ash is popular as well.

Hazel always looks a silver tinted grey to me . The only reason I went for sweet chestnut was I assumed it wasn't Hazel as the op asked "what is it ? ". I just assumed he would recognize Hazel if it was ..........:001_smile:
