Not exactly, I suspect you are thinking of summer/sudden branch drop, more common in some species (oak, cedar) than others (walnut, eucalyptus), and where branches fall suddenly without warning.

Of course any tree can drop a limb as a result of decay or a defect, but that is a whole different kettle of fish to SBD and generally comes with warning signs.
