I've decided to update my website and had a salesperson round to pitch their services.

 

Anyway, after the usual spiel, she quoted the sort of price I was expecting €2000 for 6 pages etc.

 

Some might think that pricey but that's not my issue.

 

My current website costs £20 per quarter to host. The new (french) company said it was €45 per month from them.

 

I said that was far too much and sent her away to talk to her boss.

 

What sort of prices do you guys pay?

£20 per quarter is about right for a standard website. Is the other company offering anything additional for the 45 euro per month?

Not really, she tried to give me stuff about anti virus but in reality it's just bog standard hosting.

Thats an outrageous price for 6 pages, I suspect that if you have a .fr domain they are also pricey,

 

Costs are split two ways; domain hosting which starts at £1 a month but rises if site has more complicated requirements. I would say out of the £45 a month £40 is profit.

Then the website development:

 

In my experience most French companies are pretty naff, expensive or both but there must be some good ones, I would look at a site builder type product where you build it yourself & thus have more control over content, probably looking at £10 a month max
