I am interested in advice for sharpening stones , for knives .

Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app

What info would you like Pink?

The stones i use are Ice Bear King Waterstones, any proper waterstones will do.

I have 800 grit for bevel setting and re grinding.

1200 grit for gentle touch ups

6000 grit for polishing a good edge

12,000 grit for extra fine polishing of a very good edge

then leather strop with CrOx paste 30,000 grit to make a very good edge shaving sharp!

You will also need a flattening stone to flatten your sharpening stones as they do wear away, slowly.

Sharpening on waterstones WILL take practice, but once you get it right, you can put a wicked edge on anything. 👍🏻

I used my brand new Edwin Jagger DE razor yesterday (thanks for the recommendations). I was very impressed at how it cut my 4 days of growth, it seemed to give a better shave than my normal Gillette Sensor razor and took the same length of time.

I never cut myself and it was satisfying hearing the blade cut my stubble :)

Early days and all that, but I don't think I will go back to a normal cartridge razor.

Been using one for a few weeks, no rash, redness or anything.

Just waiting for a shavette to see if I can get an even better shave now.

You will Gary, but don't get dis heartened if it don't happen straight away..... look every day and see which way parts of your beard grow as they all grow different.

across (horizontally) and against (vertically) will give you the smoothest and closest shave.... also learn how to pull the skin tight, makes the hairs pop out and you get a closer shave..... have fun and enjoy.

Received my merlot future, soap and brush today and just had a shave with it. My neck is really sore and I've got a few nicks over my face.

Try different blades and make sure you do a double pass. Shave once with the grain and then go back over again after a hot towel and fresh soap. Finish up with a cold rinse and a good quality balm, not aftershave.

:biggrin::lol::lol:

And I got my shavette.

Shaving oil- check

Shaving soap - check

Stick thing for cuts - check

I learnt one thing. Blood is a good lubricant!

Then I had the thought that shaving with a straight razor is probably the most stupidest idea that I've ever had (and I've been married twice!)

One thing I noticed, Got a real close shave on the parts that weren't bleeding.
