HI there dont do it only accept cash on collection or a postal order that you cash before he take the bike dont let the bike out of your site untill you have the funds in your hand .

cash on collection and if its a lot of cash get one of those lights or pens for checking counterfeit bills. scammers everywhere some of these folk will do anything bar work.

Erm..... that scream SCAM at me in a really loud high pitched noise with big flashing lights all over it..

 

For starters, if he can send you an e-mail that means he has internet access and that means he has paypal access and also bank account access so he's lying right from the start.

 

Sounds like he might be foreign, if you read the paragraph out loud it makes sense, grammar and spelling wrong, different words used like 'oceanist'.

 

Does his email have an IP number in the header anywhere??? If so you can locate an IP address and that will tell you if it was sent from the sea or from roughly whereabouts in whatever country he's in.

 

Dont be too worried though, if you give him your paypal email address all he can do is send you money, he can't do anything else without your password.

Dont do it i my wife got shafted by a very similar email luckily it was not much money. It turned out that the paypal screen was a spoof email or something anyway she got scammed!!

Another thing to consider.....

 

if he is directing you to the "paypal" site ( to create an account) via a link in his email the site is almost certainly FAKE.

 

It's only purpose being to harvest your card details.

 

with regards to getting paid in cash for these sorts of high value transactions i.e. bikes, cars, boats etc I would always make the transaction during weekday working hours and would do the deal in my local bank branch where i could deposit the cash immediately and the cashier could confirm the notes were not counterfeit!

 

Remember that the "buyer" knows you have the cash! If you do the deal out of bank hours the "buyer" knows that the cash is likely to be on your person or somewhere in your house......an open invitation to burgle or mug you, rob you of your goods and get their cash back!

 

A friend of mine was a victim of just such a theft... they broke into his house and stole their cash back with nothing else taken. the "buyers" girlfriend had seen him hide the payment!

 

These days a little paranoia is no bad thing!!

The link is most likely a phishing site, like said before most likely to get your card details and personal info and even your common password. It's a standard email it doesn't even mention your bike.
